Hello and welcome to the Bad and Ugly of Retro Food. Anyone who grew up between 1950-1979 can look at pictures or have their memory refreshed that what they ate was not beautiful. It was not detailed, colorful, full of food artist technique. It was what it was. Often the colors were dull, different salt shakers were in the pictures, the setting almost matched what was served. The food was lucky to have looked edible.


No guest will leave unimpressed by this Devil Corn and Crab with just the right amount of eggs and olives atop the corn mess. (Better Homes and Gardens, Casserole Cookbook, 1969

 I've spent the past few months perusing the internet, vintage cookbooks, and even 1970s Betty Crocker recipe cards in search of the most bad and ugly dishes I could find. The captions that you read are usually the first thing to come to mind. 

So let's take a trip back and find our senses!!
